MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Swimming League (PSL) is opening its door to aspiring young swimmers at the PSL-Magnolia Novice Swim Meet on June 21 at the Fleet Marines Naval Swimming Pool in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig.

The event with a theme “Up and Rising Stars”, is open to all swimmers ages 5-under, 6 to 16 and 17-over for boys and girls.

“This is really a grassroots development program. They are starting as novice and if they stay in the program, you can see what they will become a year after,” said PSL president Susan Papa.

“We are starting this novice program to continue our search for new talents and potential swimmers. We monitor them, from novice to become regular competitive swimmers,” added Papa.

Trophies and medals will be awarded to the most outstanding swimmers. The champion team gets P3,000,  second placer P2,000 and the third, P1,000.

“We inspire our new swimmers, recruit and train them. Swimming is a sport to develop a healthy citizenry, discipline young kids so they become future champions and also get a chance to earn college scholarships,” said Papa.

Among the products of the PSL novice competitions are Emanuel Joshua Lorbes, Inaki Emil Lorbes, Andrea Pacheco, Marc Bryan Dula, Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh, Sean Terrence Zamora and Kyla Soguilon.
