SM skatefest on at MOA

MANILA, Philippines - Over 100 skaters, from as young as three years old, have confirmed participation in the SM Summer Skate, which fires off today at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

The annual two-day local and recreational ice skating competition is sanctioned by the Ice Skating Institute, the international governing body for recreational figure skating.

Organizers said 104 skaters are participating in the two-day event which will be officiated by local coaches certified by ISI.

Olympian and SM homegrown talent Michael Christian Martinez has competed in the Summer Skate competitions and in 2006 won the gold medal in skating level Freestyle 1. He reached one of the highest ISI recreational levels before shifting his focus to ISU competitions.

ISI was founded in 1959 as an organization for owners, operators and developers of ice skating facilities.
