MANILA, Philippines - Champion-potential Jacob Ang of Eagle Cement and ART Grand Prix junior driver Gabriel Tayao-Cabrera shared the spotlight as they ruled separate races recently in the 2014 Petron Blaze 100 KF Karting Super Series at the Clark Speedway.
Both Ang and Cabrera put up a strong determined fight that sent the crowd continuously cheering as the two, confidently driving the fast KF3 engine, figured in neck-and-neck battles in both races with neither surrendering to the end to claim their respective KF Junior Blaze 100 crown.
The event is sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Petron, Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4, Petron XCS, Petron Ultron, Petron Xtra, Petron Sprint, and Yokohama tires.
It was the first time Ang run with a KF3 engine, yet maneuvered like a pro. He stayed too close for comfort behind the more-experienced Cabrera in Round 1 and tension mounted as the two got side by side going to the finish line. Cabrera pushed his kart hard, snapping the chain just as he was about to cross the finish line.
The unexpected problem caused Cabrera to slow down a bit as Ang claimed the checkered flag outright, completing eight laps of racing in eight minutes, 7.871 seconds or just a slim 0.185 seconds ahead of Cabrera.
