MANILA, Philippines - Team Eagle Ridge put on a smashing performance, winning two of the four groups in the recent Mindanao leg of the 2013 Sta. Lucia Golf Tour co-hosted by the Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club and the Apo Golf Club in Davao City.
The General Trias, Cavite-based Eagle Ridge I assembled 145 at the Apo then followed it up with 151 at Rancho Palos Verdes to rule the Group I division with 296 points under the modified Stableford format (four-to-play, three-to-count) featuring members of eight clubs flying the banner of real estate giant Sta. Lucia Land.
Jungolfer Dan Emilio Cruz and Rex Goquingco led the way with 51 and 50 points, respectively, at Apo, while either the 44 of Arnel Romero or Denden de Castro counting for the day. At Rancho Palos Verdes, Sta. Lucia’s premiere golf hub in Mindanao, Cruz topped the scoring with 54 and was backed up by De Castro’s 52 and Goquingco’s 45.
Runner-up was Royale Tagaytay with 279 (137-142) while Eagle Ridge II placed third with 261 as it edged out Palos Verdes I, which had the same output, with a better team handicap. Beverly Place placed fifth with 254 (124-130).
In Group III, Raymundo del Rosario, Marthy Fernando and Francisco Gutierrez combined for 244 (122-122) to escape with a narrow victory over Beverly Place II, which had 238 (117-121).
