Chiang Kai Shek retains junior crown

MANILA, Philippines - Med Salim took charge in the clutch as multi-titled Chiang Kai Shek College outlasted Hope Christian High School, 69-61, to keep its juniors title in the 2013 FCAAF Championships at the CKSC gym in Manila recently.

The 6-foot-2 Salim scattered eight points, including a tough floater that put the Goldwyn Monteverde-mentored Blue Dragons beyond Hope Christian’s reach, 65-59, with barely a minute left in the contest.

Playing his final year for the school backed by Davies Paints and Dickies Underwear, Salim finished with 21 points while JV Gallego added 12 markers.

The title win was a fitting follow-up to Chiang Kai Shek College’s 74-49 victory over San Beda College to rule Passerelle division of the 2013 Milo Twin Tournaments-NCR leg. The team was also supported by Toyota Commonwealth and Big Chill.

Acknowledged as one of the most successful Fil-Chinese schools in the country, CKSC also won the developmental division with a 53-46 win over MGC-New Life Christian Academy courtesy of Josh Tibayan, Red Eusebio, Renly Bayquin and Rejoice Jimenez.

CKSC’s FCAAF victory also augurs well for its campaign in the Milo National Finals as representative of the National Capital Region.

“We hope to do well in the finals, it’s going to be a big honor if we win the tournament,” said Monteverde.
