Safeguard triathlon up tomorrow

MANILA, Philippines - The Safeguard Active 5i50 Triathlon holds its inaugural staging tomorrow with an elite international field and the country’s leading triathletes leading the chase for top honors on a challenging course in Subic Bay.

Michael Murphy, Justin Granger, Mitchell Robins, Belinda Granger of Australia, Hungary’s Csaba Kuttor and Peter Bajai and Canada’s Mathieu O’Halloran banner the talent-laden cast along with local aces Monica Torres, Noy Jopson, Banjo Norte and Jenny Rose Guerrero while couple Maricel and Anthony Pangilinan and Alaska CEO and Sunrise Events Inc. Fred Uytengsu provide the celebrity touch in the local version of the world’s largest Olympic distance triathlon series.

Also seeing action are age-groupers vying in their own side of the 5i50 race, staged to provide a new but challenging racing experience to all participants.

The layout features a two-loop 1.5km swim course following a triangular design starting and ending in Kamana Resort, a two-loop 40km bike ride up to the narrow, tree-lined roads of IDESS and along roads of varying terrain of Subic, and a 10km run along the rainforest road of Illanin up to Morong Gate and back to the Kamana Resort.

The entire course will indeed be quite a task for budding triathletes but challenging even for the seasoned athletes, making the Safeguard Active 5i50 Triathlon the perfect race event to usher in the triathlon off-season.

The event also aims to showcase Safeguard Active’s new line of product ideal for the athlete’s extreme skin protection from training and racing.
