UP’s General ruled ineligible to play

MANILA, Philippines - The UAAP turned down University of the Philippines’ appeal to reconsider the league’s decision declaring Jozhua Mcdaniel General ineligible to play for violating league rules on maximum years allowed for a high school player.

The board made the decision Tuesday in an emergency board meeting at the Casino Español in Manila.

“The UAAP Board of Trustees upheld its decision to declare Mr. General ineligible to play starting UAAP Season 76, for exceeding the allowed maximum years in high school reckoned from the earliest date of graduation from elementary,” said league president Fr. Max Rendon, CM, of host Adamson in a letter obtained by The STAR yesterday.

The one-page letter was addressed to UP chancellor Dr. Caesar Saloma and board representative Ronualdo Dizer.

The decision thus forfeited the Junior Maroons’ lone victory in the season, a grueling 89-87 quadruple overtime triumph over the Adamson Junior Falcons last July 15 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

“The Board also upheld its decision to forfeit all games played by the UP junior basketball team where Mr. General played for UAAP Season 76,” said Rendon.

The decision thus made UP winless in both the seniors and juniors divisions with the Maroons dropping all their seven games and the Junior Maroons off to a 0-6 card.
