Fired up Popp tops ICTSI-JGFP Class C

MANILA, Philippines - Christopher Popp fired a tournament-high 96 points in ruling the boys Class C division of the 2013 ICTSI-JGFP School Season Series first leg conducted by The Junior Golfers League at Ayala Greenfield Golf and Leisure Club recently.

Popp made two trips at the exclusive course with a 96 to finish 13 points ahead of the younger Jed Dy, the reigning Junior World 9-10 champion who scored an 83 in the 36-hole two-weekend tourney launching a busy 2013 sked for the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines.

Jonas Magcalayo and Ge Zi Yu topped boys Class A, Dan Cruz and Annika Guangko prevailed in Class B, Kristine Torralba took girls Class C while Riggs Ilescas and Laila Barro shared top honors in Class D.

Magcalayo beat Yo Shen Chang by five with his 77 while Yu was unchallenged with her 31. Cruz, the son of a former touring pro, wound up 11 up on Ryan Monsalve and Guangko scored a 64 to easily beat Annika Cedo (43).

Torralba’s 76 gave her a 23-point win over Jona Magcalayo; Illescas beat Perry Bucay by nine with a 67 and Barro’s 40 was two better than Jamina Uttoh’s 38.

Over at the Riviera Sports Club, Miguel Ilas and Samantha Dizon won in Class E while Anya Cedo and Vince Tiamsic topped Class F. Ilas (90) finished far ahead of Francis Lanuza (60) and Dizon (61).
