NCA World championship derby under way

Filipino and top American cockers pose with derby muses during the NCA World Championship Derby launch.

MANILA, Philippines - Top-notch derby action begins today with the staging of the World Championship Derby of the National Cockers Alliance at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The event kicks off the three-day championship featuring the top entries of the US and the country’s leading breeders. The other derby dates are on Jan. 17 and 19.

Manny and Armand Santos’ Jade Resort entries have been tapped as the early favorites in the event which also features the past winners of the NCA WCD, including Claude Bautista, Ramon Mancenares and Bong Pineda, who all won in May 2012.

Others in the fold are the entries of JV Magsaysay, Joel and Gerry Teves, who won the NCA WCD I in January 2012; Gov. Bong Carreon and Gerry Escalona, who both prevailed in the NCA WCD in May 2011; and Johhny Jalandoni and Teng Estacio, who both won the NCA WCD I in January 2011.

Leading the foreign challenge are Tom Wilson, Jeff Hudstep, Rene Medina, Roger Roberts, Larry Whitehead, Oscar Akins, Damon Yorkman and Butch Cambra.

Others seeing action with their top entries are Henry Tan, Ferdie Eusebio and Jun Mendoza, Efren Canlas, Celso Evangelista, Romy Lim and Manny Sazon, George Araneta, Gen. Nestor Gualberto, Joey and Buboy delos Santos, Gerry Fevidal, Ricky Magtoto, Bebot Roxas, JV Magsaysay, Blandy Tolentino and Alex Atienza;

Johnny Jalandoni, Ray Tambis, James Uy, Atty. Alcomendras, Ricky Valencia, Mayor Alonte, Philip Chiongbian, Bong Pineda, Mayor Panganiban, Capt. Emil Chua, Muroy Dolorico, Clemo Manlapit, Junior Velasco, Manny Delleva, JR Tolentino, Tady Palma, Arnold Cabrera, Allan Chan, Elmer David, Bobby Nicolas, Celso Evangelista, Ramon Mancenares Mayor Strike Revilla, Manny Ko, Boy Torres, Sec. Part of the proceeds of the WCD will go to a scholarship fund for college students of the University of the Philippines Los Baños. This year, the NCA has two scholars taking up Veterinary Medicine, and another two taking up agriculture major in poultry Science.
