MANILA, Philippines - The Milo Marathon Mindanao leg is set Sunday in Davao with last year’s top qualifiers Brian Lupio and Cynthia Jaro leading the cast vying for a spot in the national finals on Dec. 9 at the SM Mall of Asia.
Also raring to make a comeback is Brokenshire College varsity mainstay Anthony Nerza, last year’s runner-up.
“We are looking forward to seeing the strong running force of Davao compete in this Sunday’s race. New runners will challenge seasoned veterans in the sport, so it will be an interesting competition,” said Robbie de Vera, Milo sports executive.
The 21K fires off at 4:30 a.m., the 10K at 5 a.m., and the 5K and 3K at 5:30 a.m.
In the sideshow, a cheer dance competition and special side events will be held.
The event is held in collaboration with the local government and the Department of Education.
Now on its third year, Milo’s “Help Give Shoes” advocacy program has reached 21,200 underprivileged school children nationwide.
This Sunday, 500 pairs of shoes will be given to beneficiaries from five schools in Davao City – Evico Nograles Elementary School, Sta. Ana National High School, San Roque Elementary School, Matina Central Elementary School and Cabantian National High School.
After the Davao leg, the competition shifts to Butuan City on Nov. 18 and Cagayan de Oro City on Nov. 25 for the last two remaining regional legs for the season.
