Top Phl karters, foreign aces clash in Asian Championship

MANILA, Philippines - Local karters pit their talent and skills against foreign rivals as the Philippines hosts the second round of the Asian Karting Open Championship on July 27-29 at the Carmona Racetrack in Cavite.

Two Gear-Fern-C Racing karters – Vencer John Suba and Milo Rivera – play the crucial role as the country’s top bets along with Industria Racing’s CJ Tsui and Javi Benitez and lady karter Sacha Feliciano of Marcelo Racing.

Four other countries – Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong – have so far confirmed their participation and will vie in the Formula 125 Open Senior, Formula 125 Open Junior, Mini-ROK, SQ Cadet Novice and Expert, SQ Novice, SQ Expert, SQ Veteran, Yamaha Expert and Yamaha Novice categories of the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines.

The event also serves as the second leg of the Denso KF2-KF3 Cup where Milo Rivera eyes another sweep over CJ Tsui and Bobby Domingo for the KF2 crown.

Estefano Rivera, Jette Calderon and Vrei-AR Suba, on the other hand, are expected to dispute the KF3 title in the event backed by the Philippine Sports Commission and sponsored by Yokohama (official tires), Sparco, Vivere (official home of Asian karters), Motorstar and Aeromed.

The track has been closed since Monday for renovations and will only be opened July 26 to give all participants equal chances to familiarize themselves with the track.

All participants and delegation officials will have a welcome dinner and drivers briefing on July 27, at 7 p.m. at the Vivere Ballroom of the Vivere Hotel.
