Calimlim-Wang cops Prima Pasta badminton title

MANILA, Philippines - Filipino Descka Calimlim and former Indonesian No. 1 player Lili Wang claimed the women’s doubles title to lead first-day champions of the 2012 Prima Pasta Invitational Badminton Open over the weekend at the Powersmash badminton courts in Pasong Tamo.

Calimlim and Wang teamed up impressively to beat national player Gelita Castilo and Dia Magno in the final round, 21-15, 22-20, and gain the women’s open doubles crown of the four-day tourney supported by Prima Pasta, Boysen Paints, Morning Star Milling, RFM, Vit Water, Mabz Builders, Pioneer Life, Prince Badminton Rackets, ILO Construction, Monolith Construction, Promax Intl. and Amstar.

 The tournament, participated in by 1,300 players all over the country and organized by Prima chairman Alex Lim, runs Feb. 25-26 and March 3-4.

 In other final results, Team Prima’s Nil Nim and Rabie Jayson Oba-ob defeated Ralph Cajandig and Tan Kapunan, 21-11, 15-21, 21-9, for the men’s doubles B class title and May Pamoroda and Sheila Pascual dominated Diosan Abangan and Angelica Portillo, 22-20, 21-19, for the women’s doubles B crown.

Whackers Club Marina Caculitan and Geva De Vera beat Team Hi Power’s Beverly Pablo and Rona Pauyo, 21-10, 21-13, to capture the women’s doubles class C crown, while Myra Francisco and Micah Gonzales outlasted Claire Chua and Trizian Lacson, 21-12, 21-15, to bag the women’s doubles class D.  

 Vicky Herrera and Marie Nicasio whipped Atty. Ivy Cruz and Nene Aguirre, 21-18, 21-13, to win the women’s doubles class E crown and Gina Miguel and Ynez Veneracion crushed Angie David and Gilgegard Soto, 21-19, 18-21, 23-21, for the women’s doubles class F trophy.
