MANILA, Philippines - Nigerian Folashade Ogunsemuyen put on a solid all-around performance to power Centro Escolar University to a thrilling 63-61 win over La Salle in the FCBL Dickies Cup at the Philippine Buddhacare gym in QC last weekend.
The 6-foot-2 Ogunsemuyen exploded for 21 points, including a clutch basket down the stretch, as the CEU belles of Dr. Johnny Yap redeemed themselves from a heart-breaking defeat to Adamson in the opener.
She also tallied 16 boards, five assists and a block to earn the Dickies Underwear Player of the Game award in the event backed by Smart, Mang Inasal, Home Depot and Powerhorse.
UAAP champion Far Eastern University and runner-up Adamson outlasted their respective rivals to keep their share of the lead in the eight-team tournament presented by Dickies.
The reigning UAAP champions edged out NCAA’s Lyceum, 54-51, behind the heroics of Camille Sambile while the Lady Falcons leaned on the hot-shooting Mary Peñaranda to overpower the University of Santo Tomas Tigress, 74-64.
University of the East, meantime, rebounded from a crushing defeat to Adamson last week by drubbing Ateneo, 68-58.
In a fitting sequel to her 24-point show in the team’s 89-79 win over CEU, Peñaranda finished in double-double with 23 points and 22 rebounds to likewise emerge as the Dickies Underwear Player of the Game. Other best player winners were UE’s Cindy Resultay (24 points) and FEU’s Sabile (9 points, 8 points, 5 steals and 2 assists.
