SPORTING CHANCE - Joaquin M. Henson -

As usual, we received an avalanche of entries for our quiz contest. We’re giving prizes to 10 lucky winners as a way of thanking our readers for supporting the sports section of The Philippine Star.

The correct answers to the five questions in the contest are: 1. What US school did Billy Ray Bates and Jay-Jay Helterbrand play varsity basketball for? Kentucky State (University of Kentucky is not correct). 2. Whom did Nonito Donaire Jr. dethrone for the WBC/WBO bantamweight titles last February? Fernando Montiel. 3. Who were the top two picks in the 2006 PBA draft? Kelly Williams and Arwind Santos, in that order. 4. Who were the male and female champions in the professional category of the recent Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 in Camarines Sur? Pete Jacobs and Belinda Granger. 5. What is the first name of recent Manila visitor and NBA veteran Horace Grant’s twin brother? Harvey.

The prizes were donated by Ramesh Mirpuri of Thorlo Made in USA socks and Beverly Hills Polo Club shirts, Tessa Jazmines of Larc and Asset Media, Anil Buxani of Sonia Trading, the Philippine Sports Commission, Tommy Ong of No Fear and The Philippine STAR.

Here are the 10 winners with the reasons why they read The Philippine STAR:
