PNSA Sniper shooting slated

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Shooting Association (PNSA) holds the Sniper Shooting Competition at the Taytay Tactical Rifle Range this month in Rizal with the country’s leading marksmen vying in the small bore rifle (.22) and high powered rifle (223) competitions.

Around 150 snipers – some coming from the elite military and police units – will clash for top honors in various categories.

The first event to be contested, according to PNSA president and Harbour Centre CEO Mikee Romero, is the small bore rifle on Aug. 20-21 while the high-powered event will be held Aug. 27-28.

The bore rifle contest will be held from a distance of 200 meters while those in the high powered rifle division will be given a distance of 300 meters to hit their targets.

The high powered rifle event will have two categories – Open (with electronic sighting device) and Standard (without telescope).

Col. Danilo Gamboa, PNSA secretary-general, said the notable entries from the civilian side in the Open division are Randy Paronda, Galahad Vicencio, Mark Tan, Louie Gonzales and Jun Magno while those in the standard are Sony Alonso, Boy Banaag, Cris Reyes and Nino Aspe.

“It’s going to be tough and exciting event since this is national in scope. Shooters from Cebu and Bacolod are eager to challenge their counterparts from Luzon. I’m certain the rivalry between Luzon and Visayan shooters will spice up the competition,” said Romero.
