MANILA, Philippines - Eight-year-old Inaki Lorbes of the Susan Papa Swimming Academy is competing in the 16th Open Invitational Midget Meet 2010 set Sept. 10-11 in Singapore.
Lorbes will compete in the 30m butterfly and backstroke in the 8-years category of the meet hosted by the Singapore Swimming Club and participated in by China, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Singaporean teams which are fielding over 200 swimmers.
“This early, we can test our swimmers and we should know where they stand. The meet record in the 30m butterfly is 18 seconds and that is tough,” said Susan Papa, president of the Philippine Swimming League. “The psyche sheet sent by Singapore shows that Aki (Lorbes) is No. 3.”
“Seven to eight years from now, these young kids will compete with each other again, probably in the Youth Olympics,” said Papa.
Airline Council, Freego and Growee are sponsoring Lorbes’ airfare, accommodation, food and competition registration fees.
