Mendoza gains overall title at Malarayat

MANILA, Philippines - Batangas Representative Mark Mendoza staved off the challenge put up by Gerald Katigbak to win the overall low gross championship of the 12th Chairman’s Cup held at the Mount Malarayat Golf and Country Club in Lipa City, Batangas.

Mendoza carded a one-over 73 in medal play against the two-over 74 of Katigbak, who copped the Class A title. Sharing honors was Toti Leus, the overall low net winner with his eight-under 64 in the one-day event in honor of club chair architect Antonio Turalba.

Other champions were Edwin Lipat (net 65) in Class A, Cecilio Pamplona (gross 86) and Morita Wataru (net 67) in Class B, Pol Delos Santos (gross 92) and Eden Chipman (net 64) in Class C, and Raul Montealto (gross 64) and Mar Reyes (net 68) in the guest division.

AVT Properties, Prudential Guarantee and Hon. Leandro Mendoza were major sponsors. Pacsports, Turf Company, San Agustin Realty, Siguion-Reyna, Montecillo, Ongsiako Law Office, Toyota Batangas, YKK Phils., Kia Batangas, I-Golf, Gatorade, Lito Follosco, MJ Carr, Café de Lipa, Teddy Salud and Phil. Wine Merchants were backers.

Turalba said proceeds would go to the Turalba Foundation which annually sponsors deserving underprivileged students is Batangas province to pursue higher education or livelihood skills training.

“This is my own little way of helping the lives of deserving children, who don’t have access to formal education. By giving them the chance to be in school, I know that Batangas, particularly in Lipa City, will have a bright future,” Turalba said.
