MANILA, Philippines - Philippine lawn bowler Emman Protacio won the bronze medal in the World Champion of Champions Singles Lawn Bowls Championship held in Scotland recently.
The 39-year-old native of Glan, Saranggani province and last year’s national singles lawn bowls titlist, held his own against national champions of 21 other countries but was defeated by the Australian champion going into the semifinals.
“It was a great honor to represent the country and I am very thankful to all those who supported me. This shows that the Philippines can compete against the best in the world,” he said. “I hope other Filipino players will be able to participate in the future and go on to be the best in the world.”
Protacio, who currently works as the bowling green keeper at the Nomads Sports Club in Parañaque City, was sponsored by the Philippine Lawn Bowls Association (PLBA), Nomad Sports Club Lawn Bowls section and Etihad Airways.
He was accompanied to the UK by Nancy and Stewart Breakenridge who provided him with accommodations and support.
