MANILA, Philippines – Continuous heavy rains forced organizers to postpone Saturday’s the fifth and penultimate leg of the 2009 San Mig Coffee National Drag Racing Championship-National Trophy Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
Actually, the drivers still managed to practice early in the morning but heavy rains drenched the track just before noon, and rendered the BRC Drag Strip dangerous for the high speed action of this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Pilipinas Shell, San Mig Coffee, Yokohama, Pagcor and Aeromed.
“We tried to start early but the rain also came early, rendering the track dangerous for the competition. That’s when we decided to postpone the races rather than compromise the safety of the drivers,” said BRC drag racing director Fil Gulfin.
The races should have been part of the festivities for the 322nd founding anniversary of the municipality of Rosario, Batangas. Gulfin said they are eyeing July 25 for the resumption of the race while the championship race in Clark will be staged on a latter date.
