MANILA, Philippines – The second leg of the Criterium Race –”Sigaw ng Kalikasan” wheels off today at the Mall of Asia grounds in Pasay.
Assembly time is set at 5:30 a.m., while registration starts at 6 a.m. The race proper kicks off at 7:30 a.m.
Organized by the North Star Sports and Entertainment in cooperation with the United Cyclists Association of the Philippines (UCAP) and sponsored by RC Cola, San Miguel Beer, Red Horse, San Mig Lite, Readycon, Outlast and Phoenix Omega, the race will have six legs, starting with the Quezon City leg which started two weekends ago.
The top five finishers of today’s leg (Pasay City) will compete in the grand finals along with the top five finishers from the other five participating cities – QC, Taguig (Global City), Alabang, Muntinlupa, Pasig, Manila and Marikina.
The Quezon City leg, which served as the initial leg of the tournament, was ruled by 2007 Southeast Asian gold medalist Alfie Catalan. The race was held at the Elliptical Circle in Quezon City.
Catalan outsprinted Arthur Bucay and John Paul Morales in a down-the-wire finish in 44 minutes, .01 seconds to clinch the top honors in the elite category.
George Oconer and Alexander Sumagit completed the top five finishers in the elite class who will advance to the grand finals after the eliminations.
Other first-leg winners were Ysmael Gendrano, who topped the Master A category with a clocking of 45 minutes. Toti Quintos finished second, while businessman-sportsman Alex Villan finished third.
The Criterium race is organized by the North Star Sports and Entertainment in cooperation with the United Cycists Association of the Philippines (UCAP) and sponsored by RC Cola, San Miguel Beer, Red Horse, San Mig Lite, Readycon, Outlast and Phoenix Omega.
UCAP president Ricky Cruz said the next leg will be held at the Taguig “Global City” on May 30.
