The Philippine Corporate Cup, the premier event among the country’s top golfing firms and organizations, fires off March 17 at Camp John Hay in Baguio with a banner field clashing for top honors in various divisions.
CJH Development Co. 1 heads the roster of teams seeing action in the 36-hole tournament spread over three days, seeking a second straight championship after outlasting Stradcom I in a spirited battle to win last year’s plum via countback.
William Kim, Monet Garcia, Thirdy Escano and Shean Bedi are expected to be back in action and re-flash their familiarity with the short but tricky up-and-down layout as CJH takes another crack at the championship in the centerpiece Group I side of the four-to-play, three-to-count format event using the Molave scoring system.
Registration is ongoing with entry fee pegged at P55,000, inclusive of two superior rooms at Camp John Hay Manor for four nights, cocktails, dinners and giveaways. Fee for local teams is P35,000 exclusive of hotel accommodations.
Organizers of the event said teams which participated last year will be given priority with the new squads to be subjected to a wait-list basis. Practice round is set on March 16.
The tournament, now on its 21st staging, drew 75 teams last year, including five local and 15 sponsored teams. Other events on tap are Groups II, III and IV and the seniors division with the tournament committee to decide on the final classification of the teams after submission of their respective lowest handicap indices as of Jan. 1, 2009. Team classification will be based on the three lowest handicap indices of each team.
