San Beda-Alabang cops WNCAA volley title

San Beda College-Alabang reasserted its mastery over Miriam College in volleyball but Miriam recovered with two basketball titles on Saturday in the 39th WNCAA tournament at the St. Scholastica’s College gym.

The SBCA Red Lions bagged the junior volleyball crown after hurdling the Katipuneras in Game 3, 25-22, 19-25, 24-26, 25-10, 15-10. On Oct. 12, SBCA bagged the Senior B volleyball title also against Miriam.

The midgets Miriam squad completed a grandslam by beating De La Salle Zobel, 50-28, behind Marielle Lamar and Most Valuable Player Teri Anne Quimbo who combined for 18 points. Game 1 also went Miriam’s way, 57-32.

Miriam’s junior team beat La Salle College, 68-63, to get back the crown it lost last year to on-leave team Chiang Kai Shek College. Game 1 had Miriam winning by a mile, 90-70.

The 39th WNCAA is being supported by Goody, Asics, official balls Mikasa and Molten, official radio partner Monster Radio RX 93.1, official print partner Manila Bulletin, Sugar Sugar, official socks Burlington, Happy Feet, Sports Digest and with additional backing from official marketing arm AGR Xperts, MJC Printing Press, McDonald’s, Kickers and Bratpack.

The midgets basketball Mythical Five was composed of Miriam’s Quimbo, Lamar and Caramia Buendia, DLSZ’s Kathleen Nunez and St. Scholastica’s Mauretania David.

The junior basketball Mythical Five members were LSC’s Miller Joy Ong (MVP) and Almira Kate del Rosario, Miriam’s Jennifer Dimaano, Angelicum’s Jamie Ko and DLSZ’s Inna Sarah Corcuera.

The junior volleyball MVP plum went to Miriam’s Toni Camille Esquerra while the Mythical Six members were SBCA’s Joanna Teodisio, Ramona Bagatsing and Marie Eula Ugalde, Miriam’s Anna Louise Reodica and Kristen Gazmen and St. Scholastica’s Ludy Anne Tianzon. 

Other MVP awardees were Lyceum’s April Lualhati (Senior A) and PWU’s Beverly Anne Rodriguez (Senior B) in basketball; Lyceum’s Bernadette Satsatin (Senior A), SBCA’s Mossah Carlos (Senior B) and St. Scholastica’s Princess Ira Gaiser (midgets) in volleyball; and futsal’s DLSZ’s Christina Delos Reyes (juniors) and Miriam’s Patrice Sichon (seniors).
