National University is currently negotiating with multi-titled coach Junel Baculi to boost the school’s sports program, particularly its flagging campaign in the ongoing UAAP varsity league.
“It’s now in the final stages of negotiations although Baculi will not come in as coach but perhaps as the man in charge of the schools’ basketball affairs,” the source told The STAR.
The same source added that Hans Sy, whose family owns the SM chain of supermalls and who recently bought majority of the shares of NU, has been discussing with Baculi the possibility of improving the Bulldogs’ campaign in the country’s premier collegiate league.
The Bulldogs have lost their first three games, including a 72-86 setback to University of the Philippines, which dropped all its 14 games last year.
Despite its faulty start, NU is hopeful of making a turnaround with the entry of Baculi.
The Sys also hope to improve NU’s quality of education as well as rebuild the school‘s infrastructure.
