Pazcoguin sizzles in Shell karting

Jet Racing’s Renz Pazcoguin unveiled a tough fight, pulling off one win and two runners-up in the three races of the ROK Junior Novice class recently in the second leg of the 2008 Shell Helix Karting Super Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit.

The 13-year-old Pazcoguin, a Grade 7 student of La Salle-Antipolo, ruled Race 1 as he checked in fourth clocking seven minutes and 51.890 or just 0.460 behind three Expert drivers in the combined six-lap race.

In the next two races, he stuck close to eventual champion Joey Orduna at the start but the intense heat took its toll on his old engine and settled for the runner-up finishes.

“I didn’t push it anymore,” said Pazcoguin, last year’s overall Formula SL Novice champion who’s backed up by Jet Racing Team, Industria, Kart Plaza, Val&Bel Trading, VB Farms, CriSabel, MBQ Trading, Patrice Light, Oz Racing, Atty. Jun Romero, Fiscal Nestor Gapuzan, and Andersen Tuana.

“The heat was so intense that I got worried the engine might get blown up, so I just kept my pace and preserve my post,” he added.

The feat kept Pazcoguin on course for the overall crown and the chance to represent the country in this year’s ROK World Cup in Lonato, Italy.

“Renz did an incredible job despite using an old engine.  He’s one intelligent young karter who knows what to do in the midst of problems and he made a right decision of keeping his pace than stake his chances,” said Jet Racing coach Elson Carpio.
