Famous cutman back in Pacman’s corner

LAS VEGAS – In four previous fights he has worked with Manny Pacquiao, he’s really never been too busy managing cuts for the Filipino superstar.

Joe Chavez should be hoping that it stays that way.

The legendary cutman who also works Oscar dela Hoya’s corner will be back for Pacquiao in the fight against WBC super-featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday.

“Yes, he’ll be back for us,” said trainer Freddie Roach Wednesday.

“I like him because he doesn’t talk too much. He only goes out there doing what he’s got to do,” said Roach of Chavez.

Chavez worked for Pacquiao in his second and third fights with Erik Morales, one against Hector Velasquez, and another against Marco Antonio Barrera last October. This will be the fifth time he’d be in the Pinoy corner.

He’s not only a great cutman but also one of the best wrappers in the business.

“I mold it into the hand. I use my imagination to think of ways to wrap a hand. I make changes. You have to protect their hands. You wouldn’t send a soldier to war with a dirty rifle,” he once said.
