SMB guns for No.1 spot versus Air21

San Miguel Beer goes for the top seeding in the playoffs while three other teams pursue their similar bids for a slot in the Magic Five in today’s penultimate play date of the Gran Matador Brandy PBA Philippine Cup classification round at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Beermen try to secure the No. 1 spot at the close of the classifications as they clash with the Air21 Express at 4:40 p.m.

Meanwhile, Alaska Milk seeks an outright seat in the quarterfinals while Barangay Ginebra tries to keep its flickering hopes for a playoff crack at an outright quarters slot as they slug it out at 7:35 p.m.

Alaska (8-7) and idle Coca-Cola (7-8) gain a free ride into the quarters should San Miguel re-stamps its class against Air21.

The Express, however, have showed marked improvement in their game ironically following the exit of former top gun Renren Ritualo, winning their last two games against the Kings and the Aces.

With a 6-9 win-loss card at seventh place, the Express are still hoping to catch up with the Tigers and the Kings at 7-8 for a playoff crack at an automatic passage into the quarterfinals.

The Express vow to come out strong and pounce on the Beermen should they play with their guards down having long been assured of a slot in the semifinals.
