Boren, Villalon share honors in Tuason karting

Young Pia Boren and Indy Villalon split the honors as they prevailed in their respective classes in the third Arthur Tuason Memorial Cup Karting Sunday at the Carmona Circuit Philippines.

Boren, one of the three neophyte lady karters, ruled the Alaska Fresh Cadet Division, finishing the 20-lap race in 20:25.412 in this event presented by Standard Insurance and sponsored by Bridgestone Tyres, Hanjin Shipping, Carmona Circuit Philippines, Alaska Fresh, Drive Concept Wheels, Trapik.com and Magic 89.9.

Boren pulled ahead on the fifth lap where she posted the fastest laptime of 47.790 and held control from thereon.

She bested 21-year-old Oliver Aquino who bagged the runner-up finish after clocking 20:25.727 and brightest discovery Christian Barrero, only 13, who ended third with 20:47.878.

Villalon, one of the top guns in the Formula SL Light class, stamped his class in the Bridgestone KT Novice class where he outlasted equally talented Arvin Drueco and Jeremy Marquez.

Only 16, Villalon posted a fastest laptime of 46.918 on the last lap to beat Drueco in a photo finish fashion by only 0.308 seconds.

Marquez, son of Parañaque Mayor Joey, ended third with a time of 19:21.946 or 6.545 seconds behind Villalon.

For his feat, Villalon bagged the top prize of P40,000 and Drive Mags Wheels. Drueco brought home a set of Drive Mags Wheels while Marquez received gift packs.
