RP bowlers go up vs Asia’s best

The Philippine bowling squad plays opposite Asia’s best as the 21st Boysen-PBC International Bowling Championships kick off at the Green Valley Center today.

Four-time World Cup champion Paeng Nepomuceno is expected to be at the forefront of the Filipinos’ campaign, hoping to make up from a modest showing in last year’s edition of the annual meet sanctioned by the Asian Bowling Federation.

Nepomuceno lost in the stepladder finals of the masters event last year, which Singapore’s Tom Halh won over Chen Chi Jung of Chinese-Taipei.

Halh will be back to defend his crown along with fellow Singaporean Jennifer Tan, the reigning women’s champion, easily making them the top picks in the two-week long tournament also serving as the third leg of the CGU Asian Bowling Tour 2002.

Other than Singapore, also seeing action in the event sponsored by Boysen, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Prudential Guarantee, Bowlmart, Prima Pasta and Regent Foods, are Malaysia, Hong Kong, Guam and Thailand.
