Ormoc City Police director replaced

ORMOC CITY, Philippines — The Ormoc City Police Office (OCPO) is having a change of command today.

Senior Supt. Nilo Donayre will be leaving his post as OCPO director, after more than two years of serving the people of this city, and is expected to assume a senior post in the Police Regional Office-8 based in Palo, Leyte.

Three superintendent level officers have earlier applied for the vacated post of Donayre, but it was not disclosed who among them will be named.

Foremost among the three, according to some sources, is Sr. Supt. Eusebio Adamero Mejos, secretariat head of the Regional Personnel and Human Resource Development Division (RPHRDD).

The two other contenders for the post are: Sr. Supt. Eleazar Igloso, chief of the PRO-8 Police Community Relations, and Supt. Raul Saysay, director of the Regional Public Safety Battalion.

Donayre, during his tenure, experienced both success and debacle. While he earned the respect of the community, he also had to settle problems committed by his personnel.

Last June, personnel of the Public Safety Battalion under his command, bungled an operation to arrest a wanted man in Brgy. Liberty in this city last June 18, causing harm instead to civilian women and children, two of who died as a result.

Last August, during the 110th PNP Anniversary celebration, the same unit was however adjudged the best city police office in the region, raising eyebrows among city residents. The unit's commander, Supt. Neil Montaño was also awarded.

There have been raw speculations spreading around that this bungled operation may be one of the rumors persist that this is one of the reasons for the end of Donayre's tour of duty.

The FREEMAN tried to call OCPO several times yesterday to get the side of Donayre on the issue, but nobody answered the phone. - THE FREEMAN
