Gilas boys kakasa sa FIBA U-17 Basketball World Cup
MANILA, Philippines — Mapapalaban nang husto ang Gilas Pilipinas boys sa darating na FIBA U-17 Basketball World Cup sa Istanbul, Turkey.
Unang makakatapat ng mga Pinoy cagers ang Lithuania kasunod ang Spain at Puerto Rico sa group play ng torneong nakatakda sa Hunyo 29 hanggang Hulyo 7.
“Lithuania is competing for the podium and Spain will try to win it all. They are a European powerhouse. For sure, in this team are future NBA players,” sabi ni national coach Josh Reyes kahapon sa Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum sa Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
Sa nakaraang FIBA Under-17 World Cup na idinaos sa Argentina ay walang tinalong tropa ang Gilas boys sa group stage.
Ngunit pagdating sa classification matches ay tatlong panalo ang kanilang nailista kasama ang paggupo sa China at New Zealand.
“It’s a very daunting task on the world stage. But we prepared for this so we can deliver a performance worthy of the Philippine flag,” sabi ng anak ni dating Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes sa weekly forum na inihandog ng San Miguel Corporation, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, MILO, Smart/PLDT at ng 24/7 sports app sa bansa na ArenaPlus.
Magtutungo ang koponan sa Istanbul sa Hunyo 22.
“We don’t have any delusions. It will be an uphill battle but that’s the reason we are preparing hard. And no matter what the situation is, we want to perform to the best of our abilities whether we are ahead or down big,” ani Reyes.
