May ‘treat’ ang NBA sa mga Pinoy fans

MANILA, Philippines - Hindi lamang basketball game ang idaraos ng NBA sa Manila sa susunod na linggo dahil sinabi ni  NBA Entertainment vice president of production Andy Thompson na magsasagawa ang liga ng ilang events “to bring authentic NBA experiences to our great fans in these international regions.”

Tampok sa pre-game schedule ay ang partisipasyon ng Indiana Pa-cers sa isang basketball clinic para sa mga Special Olympic athletes.

Ang Special Olympics Philippines ay kabilang sa Washington, D. C.-based Special Olympics International na inilunsad ni Eunice Kennedy Shriver noong 1968.

Natulungan ng organi-sasyon ang 4.2 milyon na ‘intellectually challenged athletes’ mula sa 170 bansa para makamit ang kanilang potensyal sa pamamagitan ng isang year-round program ng sports training, development, competition at recreation.

Noong 2012, kabuuang 70,278 Special Olympic competitions ang idinaos sa buong mundo.

Darating sa bansa sina NBA legends Clyde Drexler, Robert Horry at Jalen Rose para makisalamuha sa mga fans at media.

“We intend to be active in the community,” wika ni Thompson. “We will have fan events, both teams (Houston Rockets and Indiana) will do a variety of media opportunities and there will be events with NBA corporate partners.  My role will be to make sure we document it all.”

Sa ilalim ni NBA Commissioner David Stern, lumabas ang NBA sa US borders.

Ngayong taon, dadalhin ng Global Games ng NBA ang 12 koponan na makikita sa 10 regular at pre-season games sa pitong bansa.

Maglalaban ang Houston at ang Indiana sa Oktubre 10 sa Mall of Asia Arena at sa Taipei sa Oktubre 13.

Magkikita naman ang Golden State at ang Los Angeles Lakers sa Beijing sa Oktubre 15 at sa Shanghai sa Oktubre 18.

Magsisimula ang international calendar sa pagharap ng Oklahoma City Thunder kontra sa Turkish club.
