"The top three causes of death in the country from January to May of 2023 were ischaemic heart diseases, neoplasms and cerebrovascular diseases," sabi ng ahensya ngayong araw.

"From January to May of 2023, Ischaemic heart diseases were the leading cause of death with 44,770 cases or 19.3 percent of the total deaths in the country."

  • Ischaemic heart diseases: 44,770 (19.3%)
  • Neoplasms: 24,066 (10.4%)
  • Cerebrovascular diseases: 23,951 (10.3%)
  • Diabetes mellitus: 14,416 (6.2%)
  • Pneumonia: 13,462 (5.8%)
  • Hypertensive diseases: 13,202 (5.7%)
  • Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 8,751 (3.8%)
  • Other heart diseases: 7,553 (3.3%)
  • Respiratory tuberculosis: 7,171 (3.1%)
  • Remainder of diseases of the genitourinary system: 6,380 (2.7%)

"The information presented includes provisional deaths that occurred from January to May 2023 based on data files received and initially processed by the PSA - Civil Registration Service (CRS) from the PSOs as of 31 July 2023," paliwanag ng PSA.

"Thus, the figures presented herein are still preliminary and may differ from the final count. Deaths of Filipinos abroad are not yet included in this release, but Filipinos whose usual residence is abroad and foreign nationals with deaths occurring in the country during the reference period were included in this report."
