Baradong waterways, drainages sanhi ng pagbaha sa Metro Manila – expert
MANILA, Philippines — Isinisi ng isang Environmental Impact Assessment Expert sa mga baradong waterways at drainages ang sanhi ng pagbaha sa Metro Manila at karatig lalawigan nitong nakalipas na sama ng panahon dala ng hanging Habagat.
Ayon kay Dr. Ed Alabastro, isang Environmental Impact Assessment expert, ang pagbaha sa Metro Manila ay matagal nang problema at walang kinalaman dito ang reclamation project.
Nabatid na si Alabastro ay nagtrabaho sa iba’t ibang organisasyon bilang executive director ng dating Federation of Philippine Industries (Vice-chair of the Environmental Committee), Air and Waste
Management Association (Chair of the Philippine Section), Integrated Recycling Industries Phils., Inc. (Director), at College of Fellows (Chemical Engineers).
“The root cause of this problem is our clogged drainages and waterways. Water cannot flow freely through these channels because they are obstructed by garbage and other plastic materials,” ani Alabastro.
Pinawi rin ni Alabastro ang inilulutang ng mga kritiko ng reclamation project na maari itong maging dahilan ng land subsidence, tsunamis at pagtaas ng sea level.
“Land subsidence is not due to reclamation at sea, but to overextraction of deepwell water,” ayon pa kay Alabastro.
Ang paglubog ng earth surface ay dahil umano sa pag-alis ng “subsurface earth materials.” Isinisi ni Alabastro ang deepwell water extraction kay Ramon Alikpala, dating Executive Director ng National Water Resources Board (NWRB).
Ang Manila Bay Sustainable Development Master Plan (MBSDMP) ay dalawang taong pag-aaral na ginawa ng foreign at local environmental experts na kinomisyon ng National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).
Nakasaad dito na pagsapit ng 2040 ay 12 milyon katao ang babahain dahil sa patuloy na pagtaas ng sea level at land subsidence dahil sa pagtaas ng paggamit sa groundwater.
