MANILA, Philippines — Bilyun-bilyong piso ang nawala sa kita ng Kapamilya Network sa unang anim na buwan ng 2020 kasabay ng sari-saring dagok na inabot ng kumpanya, lalo na't nagpatong-patong ang problema ng coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic at tuluyang pagkakatanggal nila sa himpapawid.

Sa pahayag ng ABS-CBN sa stock exchange, Huwebes, lumalabas na P3.93 ang kanilang naging "net loss" mula Enero hanggang Hunyo — bagay na malaking pagbulusot mula sa P1.498 bilyong netong kita sa parehong panahoon noong nakaraang taon.

"These events in addition to the COVID-19 pandemic that the country is facing, drove down both the advertising and consumer revenues of the Company," wika ng kumpanya.

Lumagapak tuloy ang pinagsama nilang kita nila mula sa advertising at consumer sales nang 36% patungong P7.5 bilyon sa panahong 'yan.

Hulyo nang bumoto ang House legislative franchise committee para ibasura ang hiling na bagong 25-year franchise ng network, habang ipinasara naman ng National Telecommunications Commission ang digital terristrial network nito, na nagresulta rin sa pagkawala ng trabaho ng libu-libo.

Nangalahati din sa P7.387 bilyon ang operating revenues ng Media Networks and Studio Entertainment, na sumasaklaw sa Channel 2, Sports+Action, Cinema One atbp. Malayo 'yan sa P14.997 bilyong naitala noong nakaraang taon.

Hindi rin pinalad ang Digital and Interactive Media na na nagkamal ng P347 milyong kawalan, habang P117 milyon naman ang natapyas sa kita ng Consumer Product and Experiences segment.

"Sky’s revenue increased by P485 million or 10.4 percent year-on-year. The increase in Sky’s performance was triggered by the increase in broadband and DTH subscribers by 56 and 405 thousand, respectively," sabi pa ng ABS-CBN.

"Given the reduced operations, the Company is reviewing its current business models, structures, processes and systems, for a more agile, efficient and effective organization."

Dahil sa limitasyon ng maaaring languyang ennvironment, kanilang pagtutuunan daw muna ng pansin ang iba pa nilang negosyo na hindi nangangailangan ng prangkisa. Ilan diyan ang international licensing at distribution, digital at cable businesses at streaming services. — James Relativo
