US kasangga ng Pinas sa South China Sea issue
MANILA, Philippines — Siniguro ni US State Department Secretary Michael Pompeo kay Pangulong Duterte na kakampi ng Pilipinas ang Estados Unidos tungkol sa isyu ng South China Sea.
“US State Secretary assured President Duterte that the US has the Philippines’ back in the South China Sea,” pahayag ni Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo kahapon.
Sinabi ni Panelo, ipinabatid ni Pompeo kay Pangulong Duterte sa kanilang close-door meeting kamakalawa ng gabi sa Villamor Airbase na kapag inatake ang anumang barko ng Pilipinas ay puwedeng gamitin ang Phl-US Mutual Defense Treaty.
Sa pananaw ng Malacañang ay hindi na kailangang rebyuhin ang MDT matapos siguruhin mismo ni Pompeo sa Pangulo na anumang pag-atake sa Pilipinas ay maituturing na pag-atake na rin sa Amerika.
“There is no need to review the Mutual Defense Treaty with the US, following statement of Sec. Pompeo that any attack against the PH is an attack against the US,” dagdag pa ni Panelo.
