Drilon kumpiyansang matibay pa rin ang alyansa ng Pinas at US sa hatol kay Pemberton

MANILA, Philippines — Naniniwala si Senate President Franklin Drilon na hindi maaapektuhan ng desisyon ng korte kay US Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton ang alyansa sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at Amerika.

Sinabi ni Drilon na sa kabila ng magandang pagkakaibigan ng dalawang bansa ay kailangan pa rin manaig ang batas.

"The crime was committed by an individual through his own acts in Philippine territory. The country has to uphold and promote respect for the laws of our nation," pahayag ng Senate President.

Hinatulan ng anim hanggang 12 taong pagkakakulong si Pemberton ng Olongapo Regional Trial Court matapos mapatunayang guilty sa kasong homicide sa pagpatay kay Filipina transgender Jennifer Laude.

Umaasa rin si Drilon na susundin ng gobyerno ng Amerika ang kautusan ng korte.

Iginiit ni Drilon na naging patas ang korte sa naging kanilang desisyon, kung saan binigyan din si Pemberton ng pagkakataon na maipagtanggol ang sarili.

"I believe that the Court rendered its decision based on applicable laws and jurisprudence, and according to what is just and right," wika pa ng senador.

Kasalukuyan pa ring nasa Armed Forces' Custodial Center sa Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City si Pemberton sa kabila ng naunang utos ng korte na ilagay siya sa New Bilibid Prison.
