Ang Mediterranean diet ay Southern European na naka-focus sa nutritional habits ng mga tao sa Crete, Greece, at southern Italy. Sa ngayon kasama na ang Spain, southern France, at Portugal bagama’t ang Portugal ay hindi nakadikit sa Mediterranean Sea.

Ang diet na ito ay nakatuon sa pagkaing halaman, fresh fruits bilang dessert, beans, nuts, whole grains, seeds, at olive oil bilang main source ng dietary fats.

Ang cheese at yogurts ang main dairy foods. Kasama sa diet ang katamtamang pagkain ng isda, poultry na hanggang apat na itlog kada-linggo, at kaunting red meat at wine.

Hanggang one-third ng Mediterranean diet ang binubuo ng fat, may saturated fats na hindi lalagpas sa 8 percent ng calorie intake.
