Sistema, chemistry armas ng Gilas
MANILA, Philippines — Magandang sistema at solidong chemistry ang naging armas ng Gilas Pilipinas sa matikas na kampanya nito sa FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament sa Riga, Latvia.
Ito ang pananaw ni dating men’s basketball head coach Rajko Toroman matapos masaksihan ang magandang ipinamalas ng Gilas Pilipinas sa Olympic qualifiers.
Bagama’t bigo ang Gilas Pilipinas na makahirit ng tiket sa Paris Olympics, naniniwala si Toroman na magandang simula ito para sa mga susunod na torneong lalahukan ng tropa.
Nangunguna sa dahilan ni Toroman ang magandang programa ni Gilas head coach Tim Cone.
“In our time, the program we had, we don’t have size at that moment. Some guys have no international exposure, and we were made up of some collegiate players,” ani Toroman.
Isa pa rito ang pagkakaroon ng matangkad na lineup dahilan para makasabay ito sa mga higanteng kalaban sa Olympic qualifiers.
Nangunguna na sa listahan si Kai Sotto kasama pa sina June Mar Fajardo at Japeth Aguilar.
Nasa lineup din ng Gilas si AJ Edu ngunit hindi ito nakalaro dahil nagpapagaling pa ito sa kanyang injury.
“But now the situation is totally different because now Gilas has the size with Kai Sotto, June Mar, Japeth, and AJ Edu. All these guys are very competitive,” dagdag ni Toroman.
Nagawang pabagsakin ng Gilas ang host Latvia sa iskor na 89-80 sa kanilang unang pagsalang sa Olympic qualifiers.
Kasama pa sa lineup sina Dwight Ramos, Carl Tamayo, CJ Perez, Chris Newsome, Calvin Oftana, Kevin Quiambao at Mason Amos.
