2 US sen. isusulong ang Boxing Commission

WASHINGTON--Bu­nga ng kontrobersyal na pagkatalo ni Manny Pacquiao kay Timothy Bradley, Jr., dalawang Senador ang nagsulong ng pagkaroon ng isang espesyal na bo­xing commission na magbabantay sa lahat ng boxing matches sa United States at mapanatili ang integridad nito.

Itinutulak nina Sen. John McCain, nagboksing habang nasa U.S. Naval Academy, at Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, dating middleweight boxer, ang pagbuo sa U.S. Boxing Commission.

Ito ang magpapatupad sa federal boxing law, makikipagtulungan sa bo­xing industry at local commissions at license boxers, promoters, managers at magbabasbas sa mga organisasyon.

Nagsalita sa Senate floor, inulit ni McCain ang sinabi ni dating sportswriter Jimmy Cannon na nagla­rawan sa boxing bilang “red light district of sports.”

Sinabi niyang ang nakaraang welterweight bout sa pagitan nina Bradley at Pacquiao “is the latest example of the legitimate distrust boxing fans have for the integrity of the sport.”

Natalo si Pacquiao kay Bradley via split decision noong Hunyo 9 sa Vegas.

Ito ang tumapos sa itinayo ni Pacquiao na se­ven-year unbeaten streak at nagpagalit kay promoter Bob Arum na humingi ng full investigation sa mga Nevada officials.

“I’ve never been as asha­med of the sport of bo­xing as I am tonight,” ani Arum, humahawak kina Pacquiao at Bradley.

“Clearly, the conspiracy theories and speculation surrounding the fight are given life because there are so many questions surrounding the integrity of the sport and how it is managed in multiple jurisdictions,” ani McCain.
