Donaire umaasa ng maaksyong laban kay Vazquez

MANILA, Philippines - Inaasahang magiging hitik sa aksyon ang banggaan nina Noni­to ‘The Filipino Flash’ Do­naire, Jr. at Wilfredo Vazquez, Jr. sa Pebrero 4 sa Alamado­me sa San Antonio, Texas.

“I know that Vazquez Jr., not only is he a good per­son -- a great guy -- but I know that he comes out there to fight,” sabi ni Do­naire sa kanilang press con­ference kahapon.

Nakatakdang pag-aga­wan ng 29-anyos na si Do­naire at ng 27-anyos na si Vazquez ang bakanteng World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight belt.

Tangan ni Donaire, nag­­kampeon sa flyweight di­vision ng International Bo­xing Organization (IBO) at International Boxing Fede­ration (IBF), ang kanyang may 27-1-0 win-loss-draw ring record kasama ang 18 KOs kumpara sa 21-1-1 (18 KOs) slate ni Vasquez.

Nagmula si Donaire mula sa isang matagum­pay na pagtatanggol sa kan­yang mga bitbit na World Boxing Council (WBC) at World Boxing Or­ganization (WBO) bantamweight title laban kay Omar Nar­vaez noong Oktubre 22 sa Madison Square Gar­den.

Ang WBC at WBO ban­tamweight crowns ni Do­naire ay nanggaling sa kanyang second-round TKO win kay Mexican Fernando Montiel noong Pebrero 19 kung saan ito ay hinirang bilang “Knockout of the Year” mula sa RingTV, ESPN at Sports Illustrated.

Tumatayo bilang No. 8 si Vazquez sa The RING Magazine.

Si Vazquez ay ang da­ting WBO super bantamweight ruler bago nabigo kay Mexican Jorge Arce via 12th-round TKO noong Ma­yo 7, 2011.

Iniwan ng 32-anyos na si Arce ang naturang super bantamweight title para bumaba sa bantamweight class.
