19 team maglalabu-labo sa WNCAA

MANILA, Philippines – Habang ang ibang liga ay nababa­wasan ng kalahok o tumutupi na, patuloy naman ang paglago ng Women’s Na­tional Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA).

Katunayan, sa pagbubukas ng kani­lang ika-41st taon ay may 19 na koponan ang kasali dahil bumalik ang St. Paul Pa­sig habang lalahok sa unang pagkakataon ang Poveda College.

“Our goal is to reach 20 teams and we now have 19 teams,” pagmamalaki ni league president Vivian Manila ng St. Scholastica’s College sa press laun­ching kahapon sa Aristocrat Restaurant sa Ma­late, Manila.

Isa si Gretchen Malalad na nagmula sa liga na nakilala sa buong mundo sa ka­ratekas at siya nga ay maghahatid ng inspirational message sa pagbubukas sa Sabado sa Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Ang basketball ang unang ilalarga sa walong regular sports na paglalabanan at ang iba pa nga ay ang volleyball, badmin­ton, futsal, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo at cheer leading. Demo sport naman ang larong dutchball.

Ang iba pang balik WNCAA ay ang Angelicum College, Chiang Kai Shek Col­lege, College of St. Benilde, De La Salle Zobel, Emilio Aguinaldo College, La Consolacion College, Manila, Lyceum of the Philippi­nes University, La Salle College, Miriam College, Philippine Women’s University, Rizal Technological University, San Beda College Alabang, St. Jude Catholic School, St. Scholastica’s College, St. Stephen’s High School at University of Asia and the Pacific.

Patok ang Lyceum na makapagdo­mina uli sa basketball at volleyball dahil nagtala na ng apat na sunod na kampeo­nato ang koponan sa basketball habang may 10 titulo naman ang Lyceum sa volleyball.
