Patriots vs Slingers sa Singapore

MANILA, Philippines - Hindi pa rin natatapos ang tuwa ng Philippine Patriots sa pagkapanalo sa opening game kontra sa Satria Muda Britama ng Indonesia ngunit kailangan nilang paghandaan ang susunod na laban sa ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) Invitational Championship.

“It’s nice to win your first game because it gives you more confidence. But in this case, we have to be more aggressive and smarter,” sabi ni co-team owner Dr. Mikee Romero of Harbour Centre.

“We have to play solid basketball for 40 minutes, we can’t afford to play good basketball only in the fourth quarter if we want to win again.”

Nag-aalala si Romero’s dahil mapapasabak ang Patriots sa bigating Singapore Slingers sa Linggo sa Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Inamin nina Romero at co-team owner Tony Boy Cojuangco ng ABC-5 na nasa panganib ang Patriots kung hindi nila paiigtingin ang depensa na ginamit nila upang igupo ang Indons, 76-69, sa Britama sa Jakarta noong Sabado.

“We really have to play tough defense,” sabi ni Romero, na determinadong madagdagan ang koleksiyon ng mga tropeo matapos manalo ng pitong PBL titles, isang SEABA championship at gold medal sa 2007 SEA Games.

Sumandal naman ang Slingers sa kanilang opensa sa pangunguna nina Americans Mike LeBlanc at Kyle Jeffer at Filipino Al Vergara upang igupo ang Brunei Barracudas, 87-69, noong Linggo sa Singapore.

Si LeBlanc, naglaro sa Philippine team sa SEABA Championship noong nakaraang taon, at Jeffer ay nagtulong sa 35 points at 30 rebounds habang si Vergara, sikat na sikat sa Singapore, ay tumapos ng 10 points at eight assists.
