Dumaguete batters nakaligtas

Isang impresibong relief job ang ipinamalas ni hurler Darwin dela Calzada sa fourth inning nang umahon ang Dumaguete mula sa 0-8 deficit upang igupo ang Batangas, 13-9 sa Baseball Philippines’ Series IV sa Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium kahapon.

Pinalitan ni Dela Calzada si Saxon Omandac at playing team manager Lito Pulgo, may dalawang outs sa fourth, kung saan apat na batters ang pinatalsik nito at nagpakawala lamang ng apat na hits habang nagtala naman si centerfielder Andrew Cuyugan ng two-run homer upang iselyo ang six-run ng Unibikers sa sixth inning para makumpleto ang kanilang dramatikong comeback.

“We were communicating in this game compared to yesterday (Saturday),” ani Pulgo sa Filipino na tinutukoy ang 4-6 pagkatalo ng Dumaguete sa Batangas sa opener ng Community Sports Inc.-organized league noong Sabado kung saan nakalamang ang Uni-bikers sa 3-2 bago natalo ng apat na runs ng Series III champions sa seventh inning.

Nakabawi naman ang Muntinlupa Mariners, pumalit sa pilot series champion Makati sa Manila Sharks matapos ang 5-3 panalo sa ikalawang game.

Nagpakawala si Romeo Jasmin ng walong hits ngunit gumawa ito ng mahahalagang putouts para makabawi ang Mariners sa 4-12 pagkatalo upang makatabla sa Sharks sa torneong suportado ng Mizuno, Gatorade, Purefoods TJ Hotdogs, Welcoat Paints, Industrial Enterprises, Inc., Harbour Centre, The Heritage Park at Agility Logistics.
