Huling Olympics na ni Tanamor

Sa posibleng huli niyang pagkakataon sa Olympic Games, handang ibigay ni Filipino light flyweight Harry Tanamor ang lahat ng kanyang makakaya para masuntok ang kauna-unahang Olympic gold medal ng bansa.

“Lalaban po tayo. Gagawin ko po ang lahat ng aking makakaya para maiuwi natin ang gintong medalya,” pangako ng Army Sergeant na si Tanamor, ang nag-iisang Pinoy boxer na nakakuha ng Olympic berth matapos mag-uwi ng silver medal sa 2007 World Championships sa Chicago noong Agosto.

Tanging ang silver medal nina featherweight Anthony Villanueva at light flyweight Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco, Jr. noong 1964 at 1996 Games, ayon sa pagkakasunod, ang pinakamataas na karangalang nakuha ng bansa sa Olympic Games.

Maliban kay Tanamor, kalahok rin sa light flyweight class ng 2008 Beijing Games si Chinese Zou Shiming, tumalo kay Tanamor sa final round ng 2007 World Championships, at mga pambato ng Russia, Cuba, Tajikistan, Korea at Africa.

“Ang China ang pinaghahandaan natin, pero hindi rin naman po natin isinasantabi ang iba pa nating makakalaban dahil malalakas din sila,” sabi naman ni national coach Pat Gaspi.(Russell Cadayona)
