Paragua lider pa rin

Nakipag-draw si Pinoy GM Mark Paragua kay Indon IM Salor Sitanggang makaraan ang 52 moves ng Slav Defense para mapanatili ang solong liderato sa ninth round ng  ASEAN Masters Chess Circuit noong Huwebes sa Indonesian city ng Tarakan sa East Kalimantan

Ang 23 anyos na si Paragua ay lider sa 12-player pack sa Grandmaster (GM) B category na may 7.5 points mula six wins at three draw sa nine games of play, angat ng kalahating puntos sa kababayang IM na si Jayson Gonzales na may  7.0 points.

Nagwagi si Gonzales sa kababayang si FM Oliver Barbosa sa 25 moves ng Nimzovitch Defense.

Bagamat dalawang round na lamang ang nalalabi, kaila-ngan ni Gonzales na makaiskor ng 1.5 points para makuha ang 11 games GM norm at maging full-pledge GM title.

Na-upset naman ni FM Roland Nolte si Indon GM Herman Ardiansyah sa 33 moves ng Sicilian Defense para makuha ang  third at final International Master (IM) norm.

Sa  Group A (grandmaster category) section, hindi mapigilan si solo leader tournament favorites at former Chinese champion GM Zhang Zhong (2671), kumakatawan sa Singaporean flag, na dinaig si Indon FM Cecep Kosasih sa 23 moves ng isa pang  Sicilian Skirmish na may  8.0 points.

Nakipagtabla  naman si GM Wesley So kay FM Tirta Chandra Purnama sa 8 moves ng Bogo Indian Defense para makisosyo kay IM Tirto sa second at third placers na may tig 6.0 points. Tinalo ni Tirto si Malaysian IM Mas Hafizulhelmi sa 24 moves ng  Sicilian Defense.

Namayani din sina GM Eugene Torre at Indon GM Susanto Megaranto sa kanilang kalaban tungo sa pagsalo sa fourth hanggang fifth placers na may tig 5.5 points.
