Dayrit tiwala pa rin sa Pinoy jins

ATHENS--Nananatiling optimistiko si Philippine Olympic Committee president Celso L. Dayrit na ang nalalabing tatlong taekwondo jins ay makapagbibigay ng medalya sa Pilipinas sa kasalukuyang 28th Olympic Games.
"Even before we left Manila, we were looking at boxing and taekwondo as possible medal sources here," wika ni Dayrit noong Miyerkules. "Though we were wiped out in boxing, our hopes are still high that taekwondo would be able to salvage the coun-trys pride."
Gayun-paman, idinagdag ng POC chief na "we just have to continue praying for a good performance."
Isasabak ng bansa sina two-time Olympian Donald David Geisler III at ang first timers na sina Mary Antoinette Rivero at Tshomlee Go sa taekwondo event na magsisimula bukas sa Faliro Sports Pavilion.
Unang kakampanya si Go, habang sina Geisler at Rivero ay magpapakita ng aksiyon sa Agosto 28, ngunit ang kani-kanilang kalaban ay malalaman pa lamang sa Miyerkules ng gabi matapos ang gaganaping draw.
Dumating na dito kamakalawa ng gabi si Philippine Taekwondo Association president Robert N. Aventajado, ilang oras bago simulan ang draw at weigh in.
Pawang kumpiyansa sina Hong Sung Chon, PTA vice president at overall training program head at coach Jesus Morales III na ang kanilang tatlong fighters ay may malaking tsansa sa medalya.
"Theyre all well-prepared. Theyre in top physical and mental condi-tion," wika ni Hong noong Miyerkules.
Isa pang lahok ng RP--si long jumper Lerma Bulauitan-Gabito ay nakatakdang tumalon sa alas-9:20 ng gabi (Miyerkules) laban sa 39 iba pa na kinabibilangan ni Sydney Olympic gold medalist Marion Jones ng Amerika.
Sinabi pa ni Dayrit na napakahirap na manalo ng Olympic medals at sa katunayan hindi pa nagwawagi ang RP ng Olympic gold simula noong 1924 Paris Olympics.
