Mariano,Antonio pinuri ni Buhain

Pinapurihan ni Philippine Sports Commission chairman sina Grandfmasters Nelson Mariano II at Rogelio ‘Joey’ Antonio dahil sa kanilang mata-gumpay na kampanyang pang-international kama-kailan na nagpatotoong ang mga Pinoy chess players ay pawang world class.

"Your achievements just goes to show that we remain very competitive in chess internationally and have made our countrymen proud," ani Buhain sa dalawang GMs nang dumalaw ito sa kanyang opisina kamakailan.

Nakuha ni Mariano ang kanyang ikatlo at pinal na GM norm kamakailan sa Bangkok Masters Association of Southeast Asian Nations Confederation tournament para maging ikalimang GM ng bansa kasunod nina GM Eugene Torre, yumaong Rosendo Balinas Jr., Antonio at Bong Villamayor.

Nakuha ng 28 anyos na Armyman ang kanyang ikalawang GM norm sa kaagahan ng taon sa Dubai Open.

Sa kabilang dako naman, napanatili ni Antonio, 6-time national champion ang kanyang kampeonato sa Bangkok Open, isang linggo bago ang torneong sinalihan ni Mariano upang dalhin ng malakas niyang performance ang Tagaytay-Cavite squad sa tagum-pay sa interprovincial chess tourney.

Siniguro ni Buhain na ibabalik ng PSC ang kanilang ginastos sa Bangkok Open.

Kapwa humiling din sina Antonio at Mariano sa PSC chairman ng tulong sa kanilang paglahok sa 14th Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival sa susunod na linggo.
