Pinoy swimmer pumasa sa Athens pero...

Isa pang Filipino swimmer--si Raphael ‘Timmy’ Chua ang nakahigit sa Olympic B qualifying time para sa men’s 100-meter breaststroke, gayunpaman ang kanyang partisipasyon sa Athens Games ay nasa balag pa ng alanganin.

Nagtala si Chua ng oras na 1 minuto, 4.93 segundo upang dominahin ang nasabing event sa Hong Kong Long Course Championships sa Kowloon noong nakaraang Linggo upang talunin ang pitong iba pang Hong Kong tankers.

Sa kabila ng magandang oras ni Chua na siyang tumabon sa 1:05.02 Olympic B standard, tatalakayin pa ng Philippine Amateur Swimming Association kung siya ay iindorso upang mapasama sa Philippine dele-gation.

"If we found out that Chua competed in HK and qualified according to procedures, we would be happy to have him in our (swimming) team," wika ni PASA secretary general Chito Rivera.

Ipinaliwanag pa ni Rivera na si Chua ay lumahok sa HK championship na wala man lamang nakuhang anumang endorsement mula sa PASA.

Sinimulan na kahapon ni Rivera ang pagpa-patawag sa PASA board members upang hingin ang kani-kanilang opinyon hinggil sa nasabing bagay. "They asked me to give them until tonight (last night) to decide whether or not the PASA should endorse Chua’s participation in the Olympics."

Sa kasalukuyan, apat na swimmers na ang nakakasiguro sa biyaheng Athens Olympics--ito’y sina Miguel Mendoza, Miguel Molina, James Bernard Walsh at Jacklyn Pangilinan.
