Paragua, Dableo sali sa World Chess Championships

Nakatakdang umalis sa bansa sina Southeast Asian Games most bemedalled athlete GM-candidate Mark Callano Paragua (ELO 2529) at Asian 3.2a zonal champion GM-candidate Ronald Titong Dableo (ELO 2426) para lumahok sa nalalapit na World Chess Championships na gaganapin sa Tripoli, Libya at Valetta, Malta mula Hunyo 18 hanggang Hulyo 13, 2004.

Sila’y sasamahan ng kani-kanilang second trainer na sina GMs Eugene Torre (ELO 2521) at Buenaventura "Bong" Villamayor (ELO 2469) kung saan sina Paragua at Dableo ay haharap sa pina-kamalaking pagsubok sa kanilang chess career ang pakikipagsalpukan sa first round ng FIDE cycle knockout tournament.

Haharapin ng 20-anyos na si Paragua ang 32-gulang na Super Grandmaster Victor Bologan (ELO 2665) ang Moldova’s No.1 player at kasalukuyang No.36 sa top 100 player sa listahan ng FIDE, habang ang 24-anyos na si Dableo ay maka-katapat naman ang Romania’s top players at world number 18 Super Grandmaster Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu (ELO 2692).

Sina Paragua at Dableo na enlisted member ng Philippine Air Force chess team, ay nakakasigurado na sa $6,000 US Dollar matapos makopo ang upuan sa World Championships slots na hangad na mapantayan at malampasan ang 2nd round accomplishment ni GM Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. (ELO 2523) noong 1999 sa Las Vegas, Nevada sa USA.
