NBI chief disowns anti-INC online posts

MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation denied yesterday social media posts claiming that NBI Director Melvin Matibag criticized the Iglesia ni Cristo and its members.

The NBI said it would pursue legal action against those responsible for spreading false information.

According to the NBI, Facebook posts circulating online were fabricated and falsely attributed the anti-INC remarks to Matibag.

The NBI said Matibag has consistently maintained respect for the INC community and has upheld professionalism, integrity and interfaith harmony.

The bureau described the online posts as part of a disinformation campaign intended to sow division among the public and undermine government stability.

The NBI vowed to exhaust all available legal remedies against those responsible for creating and spreading the online posts.

The NBI also urged the public to check information first before sharing it online and to rely only on official statements and verified government channels.
